We’re applying Italian design to an old Chinese product – the compressed napkin – and reinventing it and breathing fresh life into it. So we’re here for the first time to find more distributors and to look for new opportunities in this part of the world, and to educate the market about our products. Not only is this one of the biggest Asian trade fairs, but the products here are of high quality. Among the buyers we’ve seen have included those from Australia – which is very interesting for us – as well as the United States, Brazil and the Philippines.

Qdo combines Scandinavian design with Asian production efficiency. This is the biggest show in Asia of its kind and that’s why we like to attend. April is a busy sourcing season and lots of buyers from around the world come to Hong Kong during this period. As well as a lot of Chinese mainland buyers, we can also see those from the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia and North America; this year we're seeing Russian buyers, too. We also find here the type of customers we like – such as those from mid-to-high-end department stores. We are also taking the opportunity to host a cocktail event with our chief designer at the fairground during the show – this is a good facility.
Daniel Keung, Marketing Manager, Qdo International Limited, Hong Kong
We’ve been exhibiting at this fair for more than 10 years. This is one of our “must join” shows as it is particularly suitable for our product lines. We can attract new buyers, especially distributers – we are particularly keen to meet with Chinese mainland buyers this year. In addition, some of our existing customers will stop by to see what’s new. It is also a good way to promote our image and presence in the market.
Jessica Leung, Marketing Officer, Star Industrial Co., Ltd., Hong Kong
We are a young company as far as pets products are concerned, so this event is an important platform for us and the reason we have been exhibiting here for the third consecutive year. Last year we found some good customers from Asia at this event and we also made contact with some big European customers, and we are hoping that this year we can do business with Europe. Already this time we have had enquiries from Japanese buyers as well as from the Chinese mainland. The fair’s organisation is great; we also use the HKTDC online business matching service – we’ve been able to develop very successful business with a United States customer through it, for example.
Christopher Lee, Managing Director, Tak Li (China) Limited, Hong Kong

Turkey on Display |
 |
There's a strong Turkish theme to the fair this year, thanks to the participation of Turkey as the partner country. The Turkey pavilion is being organised by the Istanbul Mineral and Metals Exporters' Association. This organisation also runs Industrial Design Competition in Turkey, and winning pieces from the contest are on display at the Product Display Area at Hall 1 Concourse, along side pieces from internationally renowned Turkish designers.

I’ve taken the opportunity to visit the Houseware Fair while I am on a buying trip to Asia. I’m particularly looking for stainless steel vacuum flasks and cookware. However, I’ve also found a manufacturer here with a Disney licence – we are licensed to produce Disney items for the Uruguay market so there is potential for us to work with them on new products. The organisation of this show is great – services such as the business centre are very useful, and the registration process here is very efficient.
Verónica Pou, Commercial Manager, D&D S.A., Uruguay
I’ve come to World of Pet Supplies to look for all kinds of products for pets, such as dog houses, collars, medicines, and even dog footwear, for the Indian market. This is my first visit – I found out about the event through electronic direct mail I receive from the HKTDC, and checked out the potential on the organisation’s website. It is likely that I will place orders here – I’ve seen many interesting items and new ideas, including dog training products and raincoats. Everything – products and the fair organisation – is very good here!
