Behind the Scene
 “Based in Milan, A+A Design Studio conducts a lot of research about lifestyle trends and consumer behaviour all over the world and provides seasonal trend forecast. The main theme of this year’s Hong Kong Houseware Fair is ‘L.I.F.E.’, which stands for four themed zones: Lifestyle, Interior, Feast and Enrich. To highlight ‘L.I.F.E.’, we are collaborating with the HKTDC for the first time to set up four trend forecast displays under the sub-themes of ‘Count on Copper’, ‘Own Jungle’, ‘Visual Illusion’, and ‘Bamboology’. Based on our recent research, we have come up with these sub-themes which represent the 2018 Spring/Summer design trends and presented related concepts and images to the HKTDC. The HKTDC’s Creative Department and Exhibitions Department put our concepts and images together with related exhibits to create the four trend forecast displays which bring the upcoming trends to the attention of both buyers and exhibitors. We are happy to have involved in this project which opens up new opportunities to our company as the Hong Kong Houseware Fair is such a huge show which attracts buyers and exhibitors from all over the world.”

 “Our company has nine factories in Poland producing large-sized mouth-blown decorative glassware such as vases, candle holders, jugs, stemware and bowls for many well-known customers all over the world. We heard from one of our Scandinavian buyers that many European producers are exhibitors of the Hong Kong Houseware Fair, so we visited the fair last year and decided to exhibit under the Lifestyle themed zone for the first time this year to look for new customers who do not visit European trade fairs. The Lifestyle themed zone has matched our corporate philosophy as our decorative glassware represents modern lifestyle. During the first two days of the fair, we made 40 new contacts from the Chinese mainland, India, Japan, Malaysia and South America. A Brazilian buyer will buy 1,000 pieces in assorted designs and different colours. We are happy with the results so far and will return to the fair next year.”

 “Last December, we launched anion aroma diffusers in Taiwan. With SGS certification and patents on the Chinese mainland and in Taiwan, our anion aroma diffusers can purify the air and generate 2.5 million anions per second, and they will stop automatically after having been used for 16 consecutive hours. We are one of the exhibitors in the new Startup zone at this year’s Hong Kong Houseware Fair because we want to promote our products to international markets. Indeed, the HKTDC has done a good job in drawing more buyers to visit the Startup zone. It has arranged VIP buyers to visit the Startup zone and also set up a stage in the zone for startups to introduce the features of their new products. We have received enquiries from Asia and South America. Two to three buyers from the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong plan to buy our anion aroma diffusers.”

 “Rezon 2000 is a wholesaler and distributor of disposable items and cleaning products in Hungary. I visit the Hong Kong Houseware Fair every two years. Compared to my last visit in 2015, I can find more creative products and more eco-friendly products at this year’s fair. Up till now, I have identified six potential suppliers from the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Vietnam for the supply of eco-friendly disposable bowls, outdoor furniture and glass containers. To test the market, I’ll place my first order worth US$10,000-20,000 with each new supplier two months later. It is important for me to visit the Hong Kong fair. Apart from sourcing new products, I also attend seminars in order to learn more about the latest product trends and market information.”

At this year’s fair, I have found innovative designs for cookware and carpets and identified more than 10 potential suppliers from Hong Kong, Italy, Korea and Taiwan.  “Founded in 1995, Jiangsu Sunrise is a leading home textiles manufacturer with our headquarters in Zhangjiagang City of Jiangsu Province in the Chinese mainland. We specialise in the production of high quality blankets for babies and bathrobe. We employ over 5,000 workers and our integrated manufacturing and dyeing facilities enable us to sell products at competitive prices. We are participating in the Home Textiles Fair for the fifth consecutive years to extend business presence. A new customer from Spain has already placed an initial order of US$30,000, involving 14,000 pieces of blankets. We have also met with some new buyers from USA and Hong Kong. The response has been positive. We also secured some new buyers from the UK and Korea at the fair over the past two years. This fair is a must-attend event for us every year. It provides a good platform to strengthen relationships with existing customers and meet new buyers.”

 “Chhabra is a family-owned business founded by our father in 1992, specialising in the production of cotton bathmats, rugs and cushion covers in India. Our integrated factory spans a space of 11,000 square metres with some 330 workers, ensuring stringent quality control for our products. The Home Textiles Fair serves as a solid platform to promote our products and meet customers worldwide. We have got in touch with a number of buyers from different places Brazil, France, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines and Hong Kong this year. Two new customers from Brazil and France have already placed orders worth over US$20,000 each for a selection of bathmats. Five other buyers are also actively negotiating with us. The feedback has been very positive. We are very happy with the results and will definitely exhibit here again.”

 “Established in 1995, Acacoa Fabrics is engaged in the wholesale business of various fabrics for the production of furniture, sofas and curtains. Our major customers include furniture shops, sofa factories and hotels. I am visiting Home Textiles Fair for the first time to enrich the variety of fabrics for sale. So far, I have found a new supplier from India for some fabrics that are suitable for the making of curtains and sofas. The supplier will send us samples and pricing details soon. Minimum orders will be 1,000 metres per design and per colour of the specific fabric. I also took this opportunity to understand the latest trends of houseware items and such information will be useful for our future business expansion.”

 “In business for 27 years, Hong Ming is an importer and wholesaler of fabrics for home furnishings, curtains and carpets in Singapore. We also operate a chain of 6 retail stores selling products under overseas brands and our own brand. I am visiting Home Textiles Fair to find new suppliers. The focus is on middle- to high-end projects. There are some interesting products on offer here. I have found 5 new suppliers from the Chinese mainland and India for carpets, door mats and chair covers. We will get some samples to test their quality. We aim at long-term business relationship and will usually place orders for about US$100,000 with each supplier every year. I hope to come again to source more merchandises.”

“As an interior designer, I think that monotonous electric panels fail to match with stylish interior designs. When there are different switches on an electric panel, it’s difficult for consumers to remember the control functions of every switch. CLIQ is a user-oriented approach that our designers have adopted to create a series of new designs for electric panels to bring more convenience to users and decorate any home. Advanced digital printing technology allows us to print personalised designs on electric panels. CLIQ is just a simple design concept, but it can solve the problems of many users. That’s why we have won the Gold Award and the Judge Award in the Living category of the Hong Kong Smart Design Awards 2017.
